“As long as there have been people.

There have been those who tell their

 story”

Tony Cranston

In the late 80’s/early 90’s I was the editor in chief of the arts magazine “Off the Wall” Every day I rubbed shoulders with musicians, artists, writers, poets, models and celebrities and it was a nice job to have.

The best part of course, as I was the
editor and in charge, I could pick and choose the people to be interviewed and would sometimes go and do the interview and meet the celebrity/artist myself.

One artist I insisted upon was Robin Williamson formerly of The Incredible String Band and now master storyteller. I went to see a performance at the Queens Theatre in Hexham Northumberland and I was spellbound…

Later interviewing Robin he told me that whenever he tells a story with his words and in his tone and voice, it is his story...

Then when I tell that story with my tone and my voice and perhaps with bits I might add or bits I might forget, then it becomes my story...

Until the people I tell it to, then tell it to another, then it is their story... and this is the way of stories...

I thought to myself “Wow this is something I can do. This long- tradition I could belong to…” and so I was hooked...

Suddenly I remembered all the stories my parents would tell the family.  Suddenly I remembered all the local tales, myths and legends I grew up with and loved all my life. Suddenly I started to hear stories all around me from people and places...

Since then I have been travelling the world writing, collecting and telling stories about those beautiful places so full of myths and tales and more importantly the fascinating real-life stories of the people who told them to me...

You too could belong to the           long tradition
